Ginn Racing Development Drivers
Carmichael, Hernandez to Compete in Weekend Races
MOORESVILLE, N.C. (April 18, 2007) -- Ginn Racing drivers
Ricky Carmichael and Jesus Hernandez will compete this week in major races
as part of a their development program with the NASCAR racing organization.
Hernandez will be behind the wheel of the No. 4 Waste Management Chevrolet
in Thursday's NASCAR Grand National Division West Series (NGND) event at
Phoenix International Raceway. It will be his first race at the Phoenix
one-mile oval.
The 26-year-old native of Fresno, Calif., has competed in nine Whelen
All-American Series late model events this season, earning eight top-10 and
two top-five finishes. Last year in his first season as a late model driver
for Ginn Racing, Hernandez scored two wins, seven top fives and 15 top 10s.
"I'm looking forward to Phoenix and seeing what this Ginn Racing team can
do," said Hernandez. "I'm having a great time and getting a lot of
experience under my belt. Hopefully we can top it off with a good finish."
Carmichael, 27, will take his Monster Energy Chevrolet to New Smyrna (Fla.)
Speedway for Saturday night's 50-lap super late model race at the half-mile
oval.
It will be the second late model event for the motocross champion, who is in
his first season of a multiyear contract with Ginn Racing.
"I'm really pumped -- it's been a long wait to get back into action," said
Carmichael, who made his stock car debut March 24 in Ellisville, Fla. "The
goal is to be patient -- I just want to continue to learn and improve. We
had a fast car at the last race, but had a tire go down early."
In his stock car debut last month, Carmichael finished third in the heat
race, but a flat tire on Lap 7 of 25 in the main feature sent his Monster
Energy car into the wall and a premature exit from the event.
Carmichael will be without his mentor -- Mark Martin -- this weekend. Martin
will be driving the No. 01 U.S. Army Chevrolet for Ginn Racing in Saturday's
Nextel Cup event at Phoenix.
Martin, who will not drive in the April 29th Talladega Cup race, will be
back mentoring Carmichael the following week (April 28) at New Smyrna
Speedway as part of his development director role with Ginn Racing.
