Davin Scites Getting Ready For the

2009 Season

MOORESVILLE, NC – As ’08 transitioned into ’09, the driver of the no. 06 was moving out of the sprawling, 66,000-square-foot facility on Cayuga Drive in Mooresville, NC. And although the severance from JR Motorsports had some setbacks, it also left Davin Scites eyeing new opportunities.

In his first official year racing under the JR Motorsports banner, Scites scored the best season of his career in 2008. For the second straight year, a three-win season at Motor Mile Speedway resulted in a career-best third place finish in the track standings. The racer’s efforts were reflected in the WHELEN All-American Series state and national standings, where the Wayne, WV, native produced personal bests, posting finishes of second and thirteenth, respectively.

On the strength of a record-setting season, Scites and the no. 06 team put their dominance on display at Martinsville. Shattering his old track record, Scites posted a 20.316-second pole run while qualifying for the Bailey’s 300.

But not even two months later, in the wake of an economic downturn, JR Motorsports downsized, dropping three cars from its five-car Late Model fleet.

“It’s real tough to get sponsorships,” Scites says. “You know if Dale Earnhardt Jr. can’t get ‘em, then that makes it even harder on the little guys.”

Devoid of a sponsor and a shop, Scites set about searching for other opportunities. And things began to look up. Literally.

“We are in sponsorship negotiations to run in the Camping World Truck Series and the Nationwide Series along with continuing our late model program,” Scites stated on his website in late January.

Davin Scites Shatters His Own Qualifying

Record Set Last Year

MARTINSVILLE, VA – September 28, 2008 - It was said that somebody would beat Scites’ record set last year and they did, it was Scites himself again that won the pole for the 2008 Bailey’s 300 and shattered last years Martinsville record. After over 100 cars went out to qualify for the Bailey’s 300, Davin Scites not only won the pole but set a new track record again at Martinsville.  Scites set a new track record of a 20.316 second pole. This is Scites second pole at Martinsville where he most notable broke the track record both times. “The Champion Chevrolet was just awesome.” Scites said.
A year ago, the Bailey’s 300 qualifying record was not just broken, not just shattered, but obliterated. Scite’s record-setting pole run last fall was 20.395 seconds (92.846 mph).

The fastest 22 cars will earn starting spots in Sunday’s race. The remaining 20 positions will be filled through the four, 25-lap heat races on Sunday.

Scites seemed to run error-free in a race that featured only one caution. "I tried to," he said. "I thought, 'Man, don't spin out."

Rob Jones to Run at Newport Speedway in the Super Cup Stock Car Series 150

Newport (June 4, 2004) - Rob Jones will be running in the Super Cup Stock Car Series race on Saturday June 7th with Jimmy Crabtree Racing. Rob Jones

Rob Jones started flying in college. He graduated from Delaware State University with a B.S. in Aircraft Systems Management. After college Jones was selected to go to pilot training for the Maryland Air National Guard to fly A-10 fighter planes.

"While in college I found out about the Air National Guard and decided to fly fighters. I set three goals for myself, one was to fly fighters in the guard, the other was to fly for the airlines, and the third was to pursue my dream of becoming a professional racer when I could afford to fund my own dream." Jones Stated.

Jones ran legends cars three years ago. After that he began testing late models in Virginia. He then volunteered as a helper for various driving experience schools to try and continue to get seat time any way that he could. An opportunity of a lifetime fall into Rob Jones lap when he was contacted by a team that he was driving for in the ARCA Lincoln Welders Truck Series. "We spoke over the phone and I went to test with them before the season and they decided to give me a chance driving one of their trucks that season. Along the way I have met some great people who have come aboard to help me pursue my dream and give me mentorship along the way. "

Now Jones is ready to get some experience as he prepares to move up through the ranks.

“The same skills and attributes that make a successful fighter pilot go hand in hand with the ones necessary to become a successful racer. You have to be aggressive, but in control, you also have to have excellent reflexes, and excellent eye-hand coordination. I am very excited to have this opportunity to race and gain more track time and to get back in a stock car. Jimmy Crabtree racing has been very successful so far in the Super Cup Stock Car Series and I know that I will have a very competitive car.”

Scites starts the season at JR Motorsports with a Win at MotorMile

RADFORD, Va. (April 8, 2008) -The No. 06 Champion team drove to Motor Mile Speedway in the rain on Saturday for the track’s first race of the season. When they arrived at the track, surprisingly it was not raining.

“During practice I knew we had a good race car, but had no idea what it would do when it came time for qualifying,” Scites said.

The car didn’t let him down as he qualified fifth out of the 29 cars in the field.

“I knew that we would be close enough to get to the front during the 150 laps,” Scites said. “Motor Mile Speedway ran all the races on Saturday except for ours. We made it through the day, but the rain finally came and they lost the track.”

Track officials opted to postpone the race to the following afternoon, and from the drop of the green flag the Champion Chevy was strong. Scites worked his way into second place with 40 laps to go.

“I started reeling in the leader,” Scites said. “There were very few cautions and a lot of lapped cars between us, which made it tricky.”

It looked like Davin was going to finish second until a late caution.

“I knew that would give me a chance to take a charge at the leader,” Scites said.

The green flag came out with only a handful of laps to go. When the leaders entered Turn One, the No. 26 car pushed up the track just enough for Scites to get underneath him.

“Down the back stretch he hit me twice trying to break my momentum,” Scites said. “We battled side by side for the next three laps. I really wanted to give Champion a win our first time out and we managed to pull it off coming off of Turn Four on the last lap and won the race!

“I have to thank Champion, Wayne Lumber Co, R&B Auto refinishing, Racing Collectables Club of America, Stock Car Steel, CB&H Parts, Tiger Rear Ends, and Racing Electronics for their support. I hope we did them proud today.”

After the race the second-place finisher protested several parts on Scites No. 6 Champion Chevrolet and all components were deemed legal by NASCAR officials.

Next race: April 19th at Motor Mile Speedway

SCITES TO DRIVE JR MOTORSPORTS NO. 06 CHAMPION CHEVROLET  IN 2008

After a successful 2007 season, Davin Scites Motorsports has announced the No. 06 Champion Chevrolet schedule for 2008,

which features a full slate of racing at Motor Mile Speedway in Radford, Va., plus select late model stock car events at other tracks throughout the Southeast.

Scites, a native of West Virginia, ended the 2007 season with five wins, 15 top fives and 18 top-10 finishes. He also set a new track record in qualifying for the annual late model stock car race at Martinsville in September.

His success behind the wheel led Scites to an association with the Dale Earnhardt Jr.-owned JR Motorsports for the 2008 season. Sponsored by Champion, a world leader in the manufacturing of spark plugs, Scites moved into JR Motorsports’ 66,000-square foot facility in Mooresville, N.C., at the end of 2007.

"Davin is a great race car driver and a great friend,” Earnhardt Jr. said. “He worked out of a shop near my house last year and I was impressed with the number of wins he racked up during the season. It seemed like every time I walked into the shop there was a new trophy Davin had won over the weekend.

“With all his success, JR Motorsports is proud to be associated with Davin Scites Motorsports for the 2008 season. I'm looking forward to seeing Davin put the No. 06 Champion Chevy in Victory Lane."
Scites first race of the season is scheduled for April 5 at Motor Mile Speedway.

“I’m so excited to get this season started,” Scites said. “We’ve been working hard on the car to get it ready for the season. We are honored to have Champion as our sponsor and can’t wait to get on the track and get to racing.”

G&G Motorsports Marketing is Proud to Welcome Rob Jones

Rob Jones started flying in college. He graduated from Delaware State University with a B.S. in Aircraft Systems Management. After college Jones was selected to go to pilot training for the Maryland Air National Guard to fly A-10 fighter planes.

He spent three years training to become a fully qualified fighter pilot in the guard. After a year and a half flying full time in the guard Jones got hired by American Eagle airlines and flew with them for almost a year before being hired by UPS airlines.  Since Rob Jones was a young child all he ever wanted to do was race cars, but unfortunately the opportunities that are around today weren't there when he was younger. Around that time Jones saw “Top Gun” he decided to go to college and become a pilot.

"While in college I found out about the Air National Guard and decided to fly fighters.
